Where does this data come from?
We ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok the same two questions a real customer would ask ("Who is the best [industry] in [city]?") through their APIs, and we check the live Google results page for an AI Overview on the same query. The businesses each engine names are extracted and counted. It is the same measurement ClawSignal runs for its customers — published openly here.
Why do AI assistants so often name no one?
Large language models only recommend businesses they have strong, cross-checkable evidence for: consistent listings, reviews, real websites, press. In most local markets, few businesses clear that bar — so the assistant hedges with generic advice instead of names. That empty space is the opportunity: the first businesses to build AI-legible evidence get recommended by default.
